16mm Cartoon Carnival #107: Big Jerks

16mm Cartoon Carnival #107: Big Jerks

Bushwick, Brooklyn, NY, USA

It’s time for two big batches of 16mm (no digital!) animated cartoons from the 1910s through the 1950s, straight from the Tommy José Stathes Archives—screened *in person* on Rubulad’s silver screen!

For program #107, we’ll be taking a look at an oddly satisfying theme: Big Jerks. Cartoon Land, just like real life, has always been chock full of dastardly, greedy, menacing, abusive, and generally loathsome villains & foes. What better way to commiserate with our own kind-hearted cartoon analogues than to see such animated Big Jerks fall from power, learn some valuable lessons, or cease to exist…completely? Get ready to wring your hands in fully warranted vengeful delight. This therapeutic all-day screening event features *two* entirely different sets of films made in the 1910s through the 1950s. These trials and tribulations will involve all sorts of classic characters such as Betty Boop, Felix the Cat, Popeye, Bobby Bumps, Oil Can Harry, Porky Pig, Koko the Clown, Bugs Bunny, Farmer Alfalfa, and many others!

Video teaser: TBA

SPECIAL ATTRACTION: For our 6pm program, we’ll be joined by ragtime pianist Charlie Judkins who will be providing live accompaniment for a few silent era shorts.

Be sure to bring all your family and friends out for this much-anticipated opportunity to see these classic and now-rare cartoons the way they were meant to be seen—projected on ‘reel’ film, and enjoyed with a physical audience!

ALSO—
As a fundraiser for the Cartoon Carnival series, we’ll have various goodies for sale—such as DVDs, collectible enamel pins (Betty Boop, Gumby, Koko the Clown, and others!) and brand new cartoon character t-shirts in various sizes!

EATS & DRINKS:
Rubulad will have bar refreshments and some light snacks available (typically regular and vegetarian hot dogs). Please support the venue for all drinks consumed. Bar/food are cash only.

NOTE—
We have a limited capacity. You and your friends must grab advance tickets quickly, while you still can!
~Arrive on time for good seats~

Schedule:

First program
3pm seating and 1/2 Happy Hour for our first program.
3:30pm introductions and cartoons begin.
(attendees staying only for the first program must exit by 5:45pm)
