Hosted by renowned musician-folklorist Mick Moloney, our 7th annual Celtic Appalachian Celebration returns to Symphony Space as part of the citywide Migrations series presented by Carnegie Hall. This rousing concert of traditional, old-time, and American folk music explores the shared lineage of Irish, West African, and Appalachian traditions, with performances by the Green Fields of America, New Ballards Branch Bogtrotters featuring 2018 NEA National Heritage fellow Eddie Bond, Jerron “Blind boy” Paxton, and special guests.
From March 9 – April 15, Carnegie Hall will present Migrations: The Making of America, a citywide festival examining the musical legacies of three migrations: the crossings from Scotland and Ireland during the 18th and 19th centuries, the immigration of Jews from Russia and Eastern Europe between 1881 and the National Origins Act of 1924, and the Great Migration—the exodus of African Americans from the South to the industrialized cities of the Northeast, Midwest, and West from 1917 into the 1970s.Buy tickets/get more info now
