A Christmas Carol & The Night Before Christmas Live Scoring

The films of Thomas Edison’s studio rescored & performed by Ricardo Romaneiro, Pauline Kim Harris, Hannah Sumner, Justin Abrams, & Victor Cacesse

National Sawdust invites you to a special holiday film screening and live scoring of two Christmas films: A Christmas Carol and The Night Before Christmas. See the rare silent films created by Thomas Edison’s own studio between 1905-1910. These two groundbreaking pictures will be paired with an all-new score by Ricardo Romaneiro and readings of the original story and poem.

These early short films offer a nostalgic peek into the Yuletide pleasures of the early 1900s. Evoking the Victorian charm of Currier and Ives prints, these picturesque comedies and tender dramas were produced as cinematic Christmas cards offered to moviegoers of the silent era.

The films have been digitally remastered from the original 35mm elements and are accompanied by new score by composer/electronic artist Ricardo Romaneiro, violin duo String Noise, cellist Justin Abrams, percussionist Victor Caccese, with voice and live narration by Hannah Sumner. This tailor-made new score beautifully enhances the delicate shadings and imagery of each of these rare and fascinating films. In between the short films, musical interludes of traditional Christmas songs will be performed by Hannah Sumner, accompanied by the ensemble.
