Deb Haaland has built a groundbreaking career defined by historic firsts and a deep commitment to public service. A thirty-fifth-generation New Mexican and member of the Pueblo of Laguna, she made history as one of the first two Native American women elected to Congress, the first Native American to serve in a presidential cabinet as Secretary of the Interior, and the first Native American woman to chair a state political party. Now a candidate in the 2026 New Mexico gubernatorial race, Haaland reflects on the experiences and convictions that have defined her life and leadership.
Deb Haaland, the former Secretary of the Interior, is the author of A Voice Like Mine: A Memoir.
