Abdi Nazemian + David Ebershoff

High-schooler Daria Esfandyar is proud of her Iranian-American heritage, unlike those in the “Nose-jobs”, the clique run by her former best friend. Daria and her friends refer to themselves “the Authentics”, because they pride themselves on always keeping it real.

However, while she is researching for a school project, Daria learns a shocking truth about her past, which propels her into mission of self-discovery. When everyone you know is keeping secrets, even your family, it gets harder and harder to know who you even are anymore.

With social tension amidst the Authentics, her mother facilitating a extravagant sweet sixteen party, and a completely off limits romance in the making, Daria is having a hard time dealing with this identity crisis. When her grip on the steering wheel of her life is loosened—can she manage to steer it where she needs to go to stay true to herself?

Abdi will be joined in conversation by award-winning author David Ebershoff!
