In this edition of AstroAnswers, author and journalist Amy Sohn lectures on the history of three important women in American planetaria during the 1930s and 1940s – Dorothy Bennett, Marian Lockwood at the Hayden Planetarium in New York, and Maude Bennot at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago. They were the only women lecturers and directors of American planetaria during this time period. All three had supportive male mentors but nonetheless faced sexism and salary discrimination. Sohn will discuss their planetarium and post-planetarium careers, their personal lives, scandals,1 and their on-the-job trials and tribulations. Linder Theater, 77th St entrance.
