Expect a fascinating, novel dialogue among soulful strains of music—Indian classical, Jewish, and American roots music—when Andy Statman joins forces with members of Brooklyn Raga Massive. A major figure in the revival of interest in klezmer music, and a virtuoso on mandolin and clarinet, Statman brings his “American-roots music and personal, prayerful Hasidic music, by way of avant-garde jazz.” Statman has worked with everyone from Bob Dylan, Jerry Garcia, and Bela Fleck to Izhak Perleman and klezmer legend Dave Tarras. In his premier collaboration with members of Brooklyn Raga Massive, who have gained a reputation for “preserving the past while blurring genres in an inventive spirit” (New York Times), Andy will expand his musical explorations, tapping into the rich traditions of improvisation and spiritual yearning that animate Indian classical musical traditions as well as his own creations.

About Brooklyn Raga Massive

Brooklyn Raga Massive is dedicated to education, engaging in workshops, in-school programs, private teaching, and various community activities to share their love for music.
