In this lecture Eleonora Luciano—a co-curator of the current special exhibition—will explore Antico’s artistic milieu, notably the overpowering presence of Andrea Mantegna, and will delve into the complexities of the sculptor’s relationships with his Gonzaga patrons, including the renowned Isabella d’Este. Gian Marco Cavalli, a little-known goldsmith who was a collaborator of both Antico and Mantegna as well as a Gonzaga dependent, emerges as a key figure in the relationship between the two more famous artists.
