Aperture Conversations: For Freedoms

Aperture Foundation, in collaboration with the Photography Program at Parsons School of Design of The New School, is pleased to present a night of conversation with Evan Walsh, Janice Moynihan, and Charlotte Woolf from For Freedoms. For Freedoms, founded by Hank Willis Thomas and Eric Gottesman, is a platform for civic engagement used by artists in the United States. Founded around Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms, this organization merges art, activism, and education. Their most recent project, The 50 State Initiative, is a collection of artists who will produce public art installations around the country and create a dialogue about how art can engage us in civic action and discussion during the time leading up to the midterm elections. This initiative will include billboards, town hall forums, lawn signs, and exhibitions to begin public discourse. Walsh, Moynihan, and Woolf will discuss the mission of For Freedoms and how art plays a pivotal role in leading toward social change.
