The Art of Return: Stories From Formerly Incarcerated Men and Women

SUN // OCT 14 // 3:30 PM

Each day, around 47,000 juveniles are incarcerated in the United States. Of those, around 1,000 are held in adult jails. Those startling numbers are growing, as school police now outnumber guidance counselors across the U.S.

New York and North Carolina were the last two states to prosecute 16- and 17-year-olds as adults. In April 2017, New York passed a “raise the age” law, the first phase of which will begin this October. To both commemorate the implementation of the law and reflect on the consequences of juvenile incarceration, this Art of Return will be co-produced with the youth of the Institute of Transformative Mentoring and Five Mualimm-ak.

From music to painting to poetry, this promises to be a powerful performance straight from the front lines.

Doors 3:30pm, show 4:00pm.
