NYWC’s Art Riot is an exhibition of donated artwork from renowned artists—with a twist! You’ll get to explore the creative vision of artists in New York City, participate in a fundraiser that champions the written word as a form of art, and leave with a fantastic piece of art for just $300. All proceeds from the raffle will directly support NY Writers Coalition’s free creative writing workshops, anthologies, and readings across the city.

How It Works

You will receive a random number upon arrival at Chinatown Soup. That will determine who picks a piece of art first, second, and so on. All of the art is worth at least $300 (and some much more), so you are guaranteed to win, no matter what your number is.

The artwork will be wrapped at the end of the night for recipients to take home. (Buyers must be prepared to leave with their purchase. At the moment, the largest artwork measures 30″x22″.)

Doors open at 6:30 p.m.; the raffle begins at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets

Space is limited, so purchase your tickets as soon as possible! A minimum of 25 and a maximum of 30 pieces will be raffled off, so follow NYWC on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram for sneak peeks of the works that will be on display and artist updates.

About NY Writers Coalition

NY Writers Coalition (NYWC) is one of the largest community-based creative writing organizations in the world. Our mission is to enrich the lives of New Yorkers of all backgrounds and experiences through the art of creative writing. In 2018, we offered more than 1,100 free workshops to over 1,600 people. Participants in our free and low-cost writing workshops discover peers, present their work publicly through NYWC’s readings and publications, and connect with broader audiences. We currently run about 35 workshops in libraries, community centers, correctional and transitional housing facilities, schools, and other locations each week. We also host the annual Fort Greene Park Summer Workshop series and Literary Festival for youth aged 6-18.

Our workshops are particularly targeted toward underserved people, including youth, seniors, women, LGBTQ communities, people with disabilities, people who are incarcerated or have been incarcerated, and others from traditionally silenced groups. We believe that everyone has a voice and a story and that the world is a better place when we respect, deeply listen to, and honor all of its citizens.
