The Art and Science of Holography

Dr. Martina Mrongovius, the Creative Director of the Center for the Holographic Arts will speak on the art and science of Holography. Hologram inspires new ways of thinking about composition and to captivate viewers. Yet art holograms are rare, in part due to the skills and technology involved in each piece.

Mrongovius received an Honors in Applied Physics in 2004 and completed her PhD about the role of movement in encountering holographic images, through the Spatial Information Architecture Laboratory at RMIT University in 2012. She has taught at The Dorsky, Teens take the Met, RMIT University in Australia, Korea National University of Arts, Kun Shan University in Taiwan and the Academy of Media Arts in Cologne. Her artwork involves installations of spatially animated holographic images or large-scale collaborations to produce participatory art experiences. Solo exhibitions have been created for galleries and museums in Berlin, Seoul, Melbourne, Cologne, Ghent and New York.

As the Creative Director of the Center for the Holographic Arts an organization that fosters and promotes art holograms and the awareness of holographic ideas. Mrongovius facilitates holographic artworks, education programs and research as well as curating exhibitions. The seasonal HoloCenter on Governors Island brings holographic art to the public and provides artists the space to develop new works that experiment with light and spatial imagery.
