Artists in Times of Crisis: Remembering Christo

Join Annie Cohen-Solal, scholar and long-time friend of Christo, with Adrian Benepe, NYC Parks Commissioner during The Gates, Bernard Blistene, director of the National Museum of Modern Art at the Pompidou Center, and additional distinguished guests to celebrate the life and work of the truly groundbreaking artist.

With photographs and videos, our speakers will share their experiences working with Christo, giving personal insights into his creative genius. They will talk about the celebrated grand-scale projects like wrapping the Pont Neuf in Paris and the Reichstag in Berlin, the mythical orange Gates through Central Park in New York City, the Floating Piers installation on a lake in northern Italy, and hundreds of stacked oil barrels floating on the Serpentine River in London.

On June 15, we had planned to host a conversation with Christo. Along with the rest of the world, we are deeply saddened by the news of his passing. Days after what would have been his 85th birthday, we are honored to offer this opportunity to share memories of the great artist, highlight his work and provide a space to talk about the issues present in his art.

This program is in collaboration with Artists in Times of Crisis: On Sartre, Rothko and Calder.
