Artists Talks and Open Studios Masterclass

When: Fri, Jun 26 at 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Where: Museum of Arts and Design
2 Columbus Circle

212-299-7777
Price: $5

Three artists completing six-month residencies at the Museum of Arts and Design open their studios and share their practices in an evening of talks and access.

Joel Gaitan, Nima Jeizan, and Jayoung Yoon each speak in The Theater at MAD before welcoming visitors to their Floor 6 studios to view work created during their time in residence.

Gaitan is a first-generation Nicaraguan American ceramic artist whose work is held in the collections of El Museo del Barrio, the Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University, and the Institute of Contemporary Art Miami, among others. He is a 2024 LULAC Forum Latinx Artist Fellowship recipient and was the 2023 Art Production Fund Artist in Focus for Rockefeller Center's public art program.

Jeizan, raised in Tehran and Virginia, works across sculpture, craft, fashion, and performance with materials — pistachio shells, dried pomegranates, horsehair, brass, leather — that carry histories of exile and belonging. He holds an MFA from Columbia University and is an alumnus of the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

Yoon works in fiber and textile, with exhibitions at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and institutions in Korea, California, and Massachusetts. She is a recipient of the Joan Mitchell Fellowship and the Franklin Furnace Fund, and has attended residencies at MacDowell and Skowhegan.
