AstroCafé: The Privatization of Space

Hear talks by innovative entrepreneurs while enjoying drinks aboard the ship. This speaker series highlights cutting-edge tech start-ups that are paving new paths to space—from mega-scale 3D printing and affordable planetary access to new health monitoring solutions for long-term missions to Mars. Select evenings will conclude with stargazing on the flight deck.

Ted Southern is a co-founder of Final Frontier Design, a private design firm that builds and tests spacesuits. Since 2010, Final Frontier Design has built a variety of safety garments for NASA, with the goal of enabling human travel to space. It has also built several generations of launch-and-reentry spacesuits for the commercial spaceflight industry. It is currently building spacesuits for multiple flight opportunities, developing terrestrial extra-vehicular spacesuit architecture and designing spin-off safety gear for use here on Earth. Hear more from Ted Southern about his innovative work crafting garments for the future of space travel.

Open to adults age 21 and over. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
