Austerity & Recovery in Ireland: Europe’s Poster Child and the Great Recession

Austerity and Recovery in Ireland: Europe’s Poster Child and the Great Recession (Oxford Press, 2016) is a major new book that assesses the Irish experience of the Great Recession, austerity and the more recent recovery.  The book takes issue with the narrative that attributes Ireland’s recovery to austerity policies. It assesses the policy reforms undertaken in response to the crisis and documents the economic and social costs of austerity and recession. The editors of the volume, William K. Roche, Philip J. O’Connell and Andrea Prothero, will be joined by Michael Hout (NYU), Joe Lee (NYU), Frank Barry (Trinity College Dublin) and Ajai Chopra (ex-IMF Head of Mission) to discuss the themes of the book.
