Author Christopher Howard in Conversation with Artist Tery Fugate-Wilcox

Join author Christopher Howard and artist Tery Fugate-Wilcox at Spoonbill Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, to celebrate the release of Howard’s new book, The Jean Freeman Gallery Does Not Exist (MIT Press, 2018). The book explores a 1970s Conceptual art project—consisting of advertisements for fictional shows by fictional artists in a fictional gallery—that hoodwinked the New York art world.

Howard and Fugate-Wilcox will discuss how the Jean Freeman Gallery evolved from the artist’s experiences in the art world after moving to New York in 1968, and how it influenced his sculptural practice throughout the 1970s.

Howard and Fugate-Wilcox will be signing copies of the book.
