Author David Moore on “The Women of NH Saved the State from Turning Into an Oil Refinery”

David Moore is a senior fellow at the Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire, and has recently published a book called Small Town, Big Oil which focuses on the story of three women–Nancy Sandberg, Dudley Dudley and Phyllis Bennett–who fought against Aristotle Onassis’ plan to build an oil refinery in the town of Durham. Small Town, Big Oil is the story of how the residents of Durham, led by these three women, out-organized, out-witted, and out-maneuvered the governor, the media, and the Onassis cartel to hand the powerful Greek billionaire the most humiliating defeat of his business career, and spare the New Hampshire seacoast from becoming an industrial wasteland.
