Autumn Excursion: A Guided Discussion of Selections from The Tale of Genji & Tales of Ise with Professor Haruo Shirane

A classic of Japanese literature from the Heian period (794-1185) often called the world's first modern novel, The Tale of Genjihas inspired Japanese artists for centuries. Likewise, Tales of Ise, a collection of tanka poems and associated narratives, also dating from the Heian period, is a rich source of inspiration for Japanese artists including Sakai Hōitsu.
