BalletNext 2019 Season

in Partnership with The University of Utah School of Dance
at New York Live Arts

February 19-23, 2019

BalletNext presents BalletNext 2019 Season in partnership with the University of Utah School of Dance at New York Live Arts, 219 W. 19th Street, NYC from February 19-23, 2019. Performances: Tue-Sat at 7:30pm and Sat at 2pm. Tickets are $25 (20% discount to Live Arts members; $10 for students), and can be purchased at www.balletnext.com.

Be prepared for a blast of fresh air when Michele Wiles’ BalletNext returns to New York Live Arts, February 19-23. Look out for the debut of a crop of new dancers hand-picked from the University of Utah’s ballet program, at which Wiles is currently a Visiting Professor. These stars-in-the-making will join Wiles, principal guest artists Amar Ramasar and others to perform two new ballets by Wiles and two ballets choreographed for BalletNext by Mauro Bigonzetti. All works are set to live music with a world premiere commissioned score by Wiles’ ongoing collaborator, master jazz trumpeter Tom Harrell, and University of Utah’s internationally acclaimed concert pianist Dr. Vedrana Subotic.  Featured performance musicians also include piano recording artist and composer Luis Perdomo and internationally recognized violinist Angela Kim.

“I believe a significant part of our art form’s future will come through deep partnerships between smaller professional companies and major university systems,” said Wiles. “BalletNext’s partnership with the University of Utah provides a strong professional performance platform for rising stars and well-rounded ballerinas.”

Wiles curates an evening that celebrates an actionable platform for unique emerging talent of today’s ballet world. The professional level of University of Utah dancers inspired Michele to go back to the roots of BalletNext and reset Mauro Bigonzetti’s “La Follia, with its fusion of grounded modernism and strong ballet technique” (The New Yorker).  With this vision, Wiles also choreographed two additional new works for the Season’s presentation.
