Battle in the Margins: A Writing Workshop with Black Gotham

The Free Black Women's Library presents a writing workshop led by Kei Williams and Kamau Ware of Black Gotham Experience, exploring the history of the African Diaspora in New York City during the American Revolution.

Battle in the Margins is a new theatrical project — developed in collaboration with OPRHP and Black Gotham — centering the African Diaspora's experiences, resistance, and role in shaping early American history. Through writing prompts and community dialogue, participants explore themes of freedom, displacement, and identity in Revolutionary-era New York. The full production premieres September 19 at FDR Four Freedoms State Park.

This workshop is part of a series spanning all five boroughs, open to students, emerging writers, and professionals alike.
