Being Nick Flynn: Screening & Discussion

Nick Flynn’s award-winning memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City was a poetic account of Flynn’s reconciliation with his father, which begins when the elder Flynn wanders into the homeless shelter where his son serves as a caseworker. The memoir served as the basis for the movie Being Flynn, directed by Paul Weitz with Julianne Moore as Flynn’s mother, Robert DeNiro as his father, and Paul Dano as Nick Flynn himself. Flynn’s new memoir The Reenactments is his account of an experience we’ve all imagined: watching the movie of his life. It’s also a profoundly original exploration of art, loss, grief, family, and the metaphor of film-making. At this special event with BAMcinématek, a screening of Being Flynn is followed by a discussion of the film and The Reenactments with Nick Flynn and Being Flynn director Paul Weitz, including audience Q&A and book signing.
