Benefit Evening at RevBooks: Artist Dread Scott on “Slave Rebellion Reenactment”

For two days in November 2019, artist Dread Scott brought together hundreds of re-enactors in a powerful performance piece. In period costume, they retraced the path of the largest rebellion of enslaved people in U.S. history, the German Coast Uprising of 1811.

On Friday December 3, 7pm at Revolution Books, Dread Scott will be in conversation with Andy Zee, spokesperson for Revolution Books, discussing slavery then and slavery in its modern forms; resistance and revolution; the need for radical culture today…and the role of art in propelling history forward.

“It had a small but real chance of succeeding — what would that have meant for US and world history? Imagine a successful rebellion, a revolution, of the enslaved and degraded today — what would that mean for humanity and the planet?” — Dread Scott

“There would be no United States as we now know it today without slavery. That is a simple and basic truth.” — Bob Avakian, BAsics 1:1
