Bill T. Jones in Conversation with Zoë Buckman, Natalie Frank & Okwui Okpokwasili

The fourth and final event of this series will feature Bill T. Jones in conversation with three artists whose works are part of New York Live Arts’ current season. Zoë Buckman and Natalie Frank’s mural We Hold These Truths to be Self-Evident uses misogynistic quotes from politicians from recent history to highlight the hypocrisy and misinformation perpetuated by our elected officials. Randjelovic/Stryker Resident Commissioned Artist Okwui Okpokwasili’s Poor People’s TV Room is informed by two historical events in Nigeria – the kidnapping of over 300 girls by Boko Haram and the Women’s War of 1929 against British colonial powers. Both works give visibility and voice, in one to the powerful and tolerated and in the other, the forgotten.

This conversation will look at how these artists act and react, embed the personal in the public, and make work in challenging times.
