A reading group led by Magenta Naaku exploring Black femme transformation, possession, and the tension between surrender and self-discovery.
The session focuses on 'Pemi Aguda's "Manifest," in which a Black femme finds herself becoming increasingly violent as something — or someone — begins to take control of her body. The story's examination of possession as both takeover and becoming anchors a discussion on temptation, taboo, and how these ideas operate within West African cultural frameworks.
A copy of the story is emailed upon registration. Part of the Center for Fiction's Black Femme Transformation series. Bundle discount available with the companion session on Eloghosa Osunde's "Grief Is the Gift That Breaks the Spirit Open" (code BLACKFEMME, $80 total).
