Bond, James Bond

The National Arts Club pays tribute to the late Sean Connery, who among his many other roles, initiated the role of James Bond and starred as the British secret agent in seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983. Though other actors have stepped into the role over the years, by most accounts Connery is considered the quintessential Bond.

Lee Pfeiffer is editor-in-chief of Cinema Retro Magazine, devoted primarily to films of the 1960s and 1970s. He is co-author of The Essential James Bond and The Films of Sean Connery and has appeared many times on television in the USA and the UK to discuss Connery and Bond. Pfeiffer discusses Connery’s Bond legacy with Tom Vinciguerra, a wide-ranging cultural writer whose recent appraisal of Connery appeared in The New York Times.
