Book Launch: Don Kulick Presents “A Death in the Rainforest”

Book Launch: Don Kulick presents A Death in the Rainforest
In conversation with Jessica Bruder
Reception to follow

Internationally recognized anthropologist Don Kulick takes readers to one of the most remote places in the world to study the ways in which a language is born, lives, and dies. A Death in the Rainforest recounts Kulick’s time studying the rapid decline of Tayap, the native language of Gapun in Papua New Guinea, where he spent 30 years on-and-off living amongst the villagers and learning their way of life. While scholarly in intent, Kulick’s book is, above all, “a profoundly human story about a seemingly exotic and strange place that really isn’t so strange at all.” (Carl Hoffman). Part anthropological study and part memoir, this sweeping narrative is both a profile of a people and an analysis of the forces that continue to chip away at their culture. Kulick presents his book in conversation with award-winning journalist Jessica Bruder, author of Nomadland. A reception will follow to celebrate the book’s launch.
