Book Reading and Signing With Marina Delvecchio and Carla Sameth

Feminist in their politics and their writing, authors Marina DelVecchio and Carla Sameth each use their work to reflect the need for bringing voice and volition to female experiences dealing with trauma and resilience. Carla Sameth’s will be reading from her memoir, One Day on the Gold Line (Black Rose Writing, 2019), which tells the story of a lesbian Jewish single mother raising a black son in Los Angeles. Based on her adoption and teen years, Marina DelVecchio’s Dear Jane tells the story of a suicidal teen whose letters to Charlotte Bronte’s Jane Eyre give her the courage she needs to overcome the abuses of her childhood and the silences of her new life as a Greek-American adoptee.

Carla Sameth’s memoir, One Day on the Gold Line, releases in July 2019. Her work on blended/unblended, LGBTQ and single parenting appears in a variety of literary journals and anthologies. Selected as a 2016 PEN Teaching Artist, Sameth teaches creative writing at the LA Writing Project, SNHU, and to incarcerated youth. Carla has an MFA from Queens University, and is a member of the Pasadena Rose Poets. She lives in Los Angeles with her wife.

Born in Greece but raised in New York, Marina DelVecchio is a college professor of literature and women’s studies at a community college in North Carolina. Her work is centered on rape culture, violence against women, the dark side of motherhood, and female agency, and can be found in print and online at Ms. Magazine, The Huffington Post, The Tishman Review, Her Circle Ezine, and the feminist organization The New Agenda.
