Book Talk: The Ambiguity of Virtue: Gertrude Van Tijn and the Fate of Dutch Jews

In The Ambiguity of Virtue, author Bernard Wasserstein examines the dilemmas that confronted Jews under Nazi occupation through the life of German-Jewish social worker Gertrude Van Tijn who worked with the Nazi-appointed Jewish Council in Amsterdam.

Some later called Gertrude a heroine for the choices she made that enabled many Jews to escape while others denounced her as a collaborator.
