Booker T. Jones: Soul Legacy

The legendary instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, and mastermind behind some of Stax Records’ greatest hits looks back on a lifetime sustained by music.

Booker T. Jones dates his association with Stax Records back to high school. Now in his seventies, Jones is ready to tell his remarkable life story in his new autobiography, Time is Tight. From articulating the Stax sound as the leader of its house band, to writing some of its most genre-defining music, to working with Isaac Hayes, Bill Withers, Otis Redding, and beyond, Jones tells the story of how a young kid growing up in segregated Memphis helped to transform his city into a musical Mecca—and the incredible ways that his life was transformed in return.
