Breaking Up Is Hard to Do

Spend your night examining love from a scientific perspective. During the course of this discussion, we will examine basic human needs, the components of love, as well as what leads to the demise of relationships.

This talk will take a close look at the dark side of relationships and the process of breaking up. We will also discuss useful tips which you can employ to protect your relationships- both romantic and platonic, as well as cover some commonly held misconceptions about love and dating.

Taught by Marisa T. Cohen

Dr. Marisa T. Cohen is a psychology professor and the co-founder of the Self-Awareness and Bonding Lab (SABL), which centers on the subfield of relationship science. Dr. Cohen’s main research interests are gender differences in dating and relationship behaviors, peoples’ perceptions of love and infidelity, and consensual non-monogamy.

Dr. Cohen is the author of From First Kiss to Forever: A Scientific Approach to Love, a book that relates relationship science research to everyday experiences and real relationship issues confronted by couples.

Dr. Cohen actively presents her research from the field at both local and regional conferences. In addition to her research, she enjoys giving guest lectures on the application of this science to everyday life.
