The Broken Mirror: When Photos Disrupt Reality

Photo-taking has become ubiquitous as people share billions of photos of every situation on social media. But how do these photo-taking behaviors actually impact people’s experiences and memories? Does it enhance or undermine our experiences?

In this talk, Professor Alix Barasch will share her research examining the psychological effects of photo-taking on consumers’ enjoyment and engagement. She will explore a variety of factors, including the individual’s photo-taking goals, the content of the photos, the nature of the experience, and the scope of the photo-taking actions.

Alixandra Barasch is a professor in Marketing at NYUs Stern School of Business. Her research examines social aspects of consumer behavior.
