Part of Alfreda's Cinema's 2026 Open Air Film Sessions — where Black stories breathe under open skies.

Brooklyn Boheme explores the fertile ground of Fort Greene, Brooklyn that gave rise to a Black arts movement as vibrant as the Harlem Renaissance. Co-directed by writer and Brooklyn native Nelson George alongside Diane Paragas, the film is a love letter to the artistic community that took root in Fort Greene and Clinton Hill during the 1980s and '90s — a world that included Spike Lee, Chris Rock, Branford Marsalis, Rosie Perez, Saul Williams, Lorna Simpson, and Talib Kweli. Block parties, the Brooklyn Moon Café, and Spike Lee's 40 Acres and a Mule became epicenters of a movement that, by the late 1990s, was already being reshaped by gentrification.

Screening outdoors at Lefferts Historic House. Bring your own picnic blanket or outdoor chair. Free with RSVP. A suggested $15 donation is encouraged.
