1. “Cell wars – the cancer immunotherapy revolution” 

There are 20 million cancer survivors in the US alone. Nevertheless, cancer remains the second cause of death, worldwide. During this talk, we will address many questions, such as: Why is it so challenging to find a cure for cancer? Why can’t our immune system efficiently destroy cancer cells? What is immunotherapy and why is it considered revolutionary? Will immunotherapy become the ultimate cure for cancer?

About the speaker: Polina Weitzenfeld is a scientist, working on improving cancer immunotherapy drugs at the Rockefeller University. She holds a Ph.D. in cancer biology and immunology and a B.Sc in medical sciences.

2. “The Virus that saved me” 

When we hear the word “virus” in a non-computer setting, we think about an annoying cold or about deadly Ebola outbreaks. But are viruses necessarily the enemies of humanity?

Inna will speak about the positive aspects of viruses in our lives: The use of viruses in scientific research as tools to understand how our own cells work, the use of viruses in advanced medical treatments, and how some viruses are actually a part of us.

About the speaker: Inna Ricardo-Lax holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and currently is a postdoctoral fellow at the Rockefeller University. In her research, she is studying how viruses interact with their host cells.
