Taking place the day after the Fourth of July, CATCH — the Obie Award-winning, itinerant performance series — convenes artists and audience for an unruly evening of performance that considers the complexities of American history and this moment, staged in a building first erected as a munitions warehouse and repurposed as a 40,000-square-foot cultural destination.

Hosted by Carmelita Tropicana — "a feminist, sex-positive lesbian from Havana who borrows stereotypes to send them up, campily ridiculing bigotry, misogyny, machismo, colonialism" (The New York Times) — the evening is a raucous reconsideration of a loaded holiday.

Featuring: Saúl Ulerio, Martita Abril, Sugar Vendil, miriam elhajli, Hamed Sinno, Cat Rodriguez, evan ray suzuki, (Amy) Rose Khoshbin, Cristina Moya-Palacios, Aditi Juneja / Democracy 2076

Part of River to River, now in its 25th year — downtown New York City's summer arts festival celebrating artistic and creative diversity across disciplines, with live performances and exhibitions in Lower Manhattan and on Governors Island. River to River is presented by Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, dedicated to building a vibrant, equitable arts ecosystem across the full lifecycle of creative engagement.
