When and how did sacred sites come to be shared in the Ottoman Empire? How has the tradition of sharing continued across the centuries? Listen to Professor of Sociology and History Karen Barkey discuss her research on the history of sharing as well as her observations on the contemporary choreographies of sharing sacred sites, especially between Christians and Muslims in modern Istanbul.
