CityPride: Tracing LGBTQ Spaces

In honor of the 50th Anniversaries of both the Stonewall Uprising and the Greenwich Village Historic District, this special evening will celebrate LGBTQ lives and histories amidst the built environment.

Join the groundbreaking NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project for a selected presentation of built sites of LGBTQ history. The talk will reveal the significance behind facades and public spaces that we see and pass daily, adding an essential layer to the map of NYC. Following the presentation, join us for an interactive MappyHour reception to overlay this existing cartography with new revelations and personal histories.

Speakers:
Andrew S. Dolkart, Co-Director, NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project
Ken Lustbader, Co-Director, NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project, has been one of the national pioneers in issues related to LGBT history, documentation, and historic preservation. His preservation experience includes working as a program officer at the J.M. Kaplan Fund and as consultant to numerous not-for-profit preservation organizations.
Jay Shockley, Co-Director, NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project, worked from 1979 to 2015 at the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission, where he researched and wrote over 100 designation reports covering all aspects of the city’s architectural and cultural history. In 1993, he helped introduce the concept of LGBT place-based history in Commission reports.
Amanda Davis, Project Manager, NYC LGBT Historic Sites Project, is an experienced architectural historian who oversees the Project’s documentation initiatives. In 2018, she was named to the National Trust’s inaugural “40 Under 40: People Saving Places” list, in recognition of her efforts to help tell America’s full history.
