Three years ago, in December 2013, David Satter became the first American journalist to be expelled from Russia since the Cold War. No one who knew Satter professionally was surprised that he had been expelled; everyone marveled that it had taken so long. Satter wrote extensively on criminalization of Russia which started under Yeltsin and solidified during the Putin regime.
“The Less You Know, The Better You Sleep” is an attempt to explain the history of post-Soviet Russia and show that the present dictatorship is the result of a series of wars and provocations, the most important of which was the 1999 apartment bombings which were carried out by the FSB, saved the Yeltsin entourage, and brought Putin to power. The English version was published by Yale University Press earlier this year. David Satter will introduce the Russian and Ukrainian translations and answer the questions.
