On This Spot: The Collective Lives of Great New York City Women Artists

When: Tue, Mar 16, 2027 at 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Where: 133 W 21st St #101c
Price: Free

On This Spot joins BFA Visual and Critical Studies and the SVA Honors Program to present an evening of short documentary screenings and conversation exploring the networks of women artists who have shaped New York’s cultural landscape. The program unfolds in two parts: first, a look at artists connected to SVA as alumni and faculty: Maria Lassnig, Adrian Piper, Alice Aycock, Elizabeth Murray, and Judy Pfaff whose practices and mentorship helped define generations.

The second turns outward to New York City itself as an incubator of artistic community, highlighting collective endeavors such as Creative Time’s Art on the Beach, the Jazz Lofts and Black women artists, Godzilla: Asian American Arts Network, and Martha Wilson’s alternative space Franklin Furnace.

Each screening segment will be followed by discussion and audience Q&A, inviting reflection on how artists teach, gather, and build lasting communities.
