Jonathan Wynn is Professor of Sociology and Chair of the Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he explores the intersections of urban life and cultural expression.

His award‑winning debut, The Tour Guide: Walking and Talking New York (2011, University of Chicago Press), uses ethnographic fieldwork to illuminate the informal tourism labor market.

Wynn is currently under contract with Oxford University Press on a co‑authored volume about urban cultures (with Andrew Deener) and is preparing The Hospital and The City: The Paradox of the Medically‑Overserved Community for the University of Chicago Press.

He will also release a sociological thriller, The Set Up, in May 2025. His articles have appeared in City & Community, Media, Culture & Society, Sociological Theory, Qualitative Sociology, Sociological Forum, Socius, Contexts and Ethnography.
