Conversation & Reception | Mod New York: Fashion Takes a Trip

1960s and 1970s were a tumultuous, innovative era that continues to inspire how we dress today. Clothing assumed new communicative powers, reflecting the momentous societal changes of the day: the emergence of a counterculture, the women’s liberation movement, the rise of African-American consciousness, and the radicalism arising from the protests of the Vietnam War.

To celebrate the publication of Mod New York: Fashion Takes a Trip and the exhibition of the same name at the Museum of the City of New York (on view through April 1), join us for a vibrant discussion of the Mod fashion style, how aesthetic changes reflect social changes, and how this period defined New York as the center of fashion. Donald Albrecht will moderate a discussion with MCNY curator of costumes Phyllis Magidson and fashion historian Caroline Rennolds Milbank. There will be a reception following the conversation. Donald Albrecht, Phyllis Magidson, and Caroline Rennolds Milbank will sign copies of Mod New York: Fashion Takes a Trip.
