Critical History Today | Humane: Rethinking the Forever War

The Department of Historical Studies at the New School in New York City is proud to announce our new public lecture series: CRITICAL HISTORY TODAY. 

The theme of the series builds upon our shared commitment to developing modes of historical analysis that speak to the urgent concerns of the present and that promote rigorous engagement between history and other branches of the humanities and social sciences. Over the coming years, we plan to invite working historians from across the discipline to reflect on their approaches to writing Critical History Today.

On December 3rd, we will host Samuel Moyn, professor of law and professor of history at Yale University. Moyn’s lecture investigates the hypothesis that what is most disturbing about the forever war, including under the current president, is that it is the most humane war ever fought. His most recent book is “Not Enough: Human Rights in an Unequal World” (Harvard, 2018).
