This Olio will discuss the role of individuality, freedom and obligation both in the soul and in the city.

Taking our cue from the Oedipus story and Plato’s Republic we will analyze contemporary democratic society, which is based on the virtues of freedom and democracy rather than obligation and tradition.

Is modern society Oedipal? And what are its consequences?
