In Short: Edwidge Danticat's "Without Inspection" — Haiti, Migration, and the Weight of Lòt Bò Dlo (Virtual)

In Short: Edwidge Danticat's
When: Tue, Aug 25 at 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Price: $35

A reading group discussion of Edwidge Danticat's "Without Inspection," a story from her 2019 collection Everything Inside — a short-story cycle following Haitian emigrants to the United States in the wake of the Duvalier dictatorship.

The story opens with Arnold, an immigrant whose formative memories animate his fall during a tragic workplace accident in Miami. In six and a half seconds, Danticat renders Arnold, his partner Darline, her son Paris, and their community in Little Haiti with intimacy and tenderness — while the U.S. imperial relationship to Haiti and its immigration detention system loom in the background. A timely piece as anti-Haitian rhetoric continues to rise.

A copy of the story is emailed upon registration.
