Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War

Join us during Juneteenth weekend for the world premiere screening of Declarations: Black Americans and the Revolutionary War. This powerful documentary uncovers the stories of four Black Americans who pursued freedom, citizenship, and belonging during the American Revolution, illuminating the tension between the promises of the Declaration of Independence and the lived realities of enslaved and free Black people in early America.

Following the screening, audiences will hear from the filmmakers and scholars and are invited to explore the Museum’s new exhibition, The Occupied City: New York and the American Revolution.
