The evening will open with Noemí Ontiveros of Salón ACME – a cultural diffusion platform for emerging talent in Mexico City – followed by presentations from Tezontle, Cocolab, TO and Mario Navarro.

We will close with a guided panel discussion and Q&A followed by refreshments.

By RSVPing to this event, you acknowledge that you will be added to the A/D/O Newsletter.

SALÓN ACME

Salón ACME is a collaborative project and important cultural diffusion platform for emerging talent in Mexico. They are a catalyst of ideas, discussions and trends in contemporary art and provide young artists an opportunity to be seen and enter into the artistic circuit of the country.

Salón ACME is a platform created by artists for artists. The heart of the project is Open Call, where artists from all over the world apply to have their proposals selected by a curatorial board integrated by museum directors, curators, artists, critics, etc.

Salón ACME provides diverse experiences including music and gastronomy that are related to the rest of the sections. They generate a fresh perspective for people to relate to art in an inclusive way. Founded in 2013, Salón ACME has produced 6 editions and collaborations in different parts of the world.

TEZONTLE STUDIO

Carlos H Matos and Lucas Cantu founded Tezontle in 2014. A team of makers and designers work in a collaborative studio in Mexico City’s Centro Historico. Tezontle uses sculpture to bring the disciplines of architecture, installation art and product design together into one workshop.

Tezontle identifies with Mexico’s pre-hispanic heritage and the abstract work of the Mexican modernists of the mid-20th Century. The studio works by curating found objects with self made ones in a process of generating innovative formal and material narratives. This working method is independent of scale. When scale becomes irrelevant, the sculptural becomes the architectural and vice versa.

COCOLAB

Cocolab believe that inspiration is the engine of any form of creation, so their purpose is to inspire people and inspire themselves. Inspire and create is a virtuous cycle of which they want to be an active part. They aspire to provoke in people the curiosity to question their own limits by erasing the line between the daily and the extraordinary, making them participants in new paradigms of entertainment. To achieve this, Cocolab is made up of seven companies that form a collaboration network specialized in different multimedia technologies

TO ARCHITECTURE

TO is an architecture workshop established in Mexico City, directed by José Amozurrutia y Carlos Facio. They believe in dialogue, teamwork, the beauty of simple things, space and tectonic solutions arising from light, acoustics, orientation, wind, weight and the quality of materials. They build what they design because it brings them closer to the intimate processes of their artistry.

MARIO NAVARRO

Mario Navarro is a Mexican American artist based in New York City. Issues of perception, the combination of language and spatial elements, the sculptural properties of language, and matter/materials and their representations are lines of research Navarro has been investigating lately. The relations between architectures and forms, and more specifically, the decomposition of architectural paradigms (balance, symmetry, organization of units and the figure of the architect) are of constant interest and are explored in Navarro’s ongoing and never final propositions.
