Día de los Muertos Family Celebration

Come celebrate Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) at The Green-Wood Cemetery.
Families with children are invited to learn about the rich traditions and history of this Mexican holiday with an afternoon of art-making, storytelling, and snacks.

Join Green-Wood for flower crown making, balero creating, calavera decorating, and other crafts with local artists Monica Flores, Jas Pinturas, and Evi Triantafyllides, founder of Worldwide Buddies. Artists will also read the picture book, “A Marvelous Mexican Misunderstanding,” in both English and Spanish. Festive Mexican drinks and treats from local Sunset Park vendors and sweet bread from Don Paco Panadería will be offered to guests.

Día de los Muertos is celebrated in Mexico – and throughout the world where these traditions are observed, including Sunset Park – from October 31 to November 2. During the three-day holiday, departed loved ones are commemorated through prayer, offerings, altars, music, dance, and food. Visitors are invited to bring personal offerings for the community altar dedicated to legendary Mexican artists, musicians, and performers.

This event is open to families with children of all ages. ¡Y hablamos español!
