Dr. Bridget Buxton: Recent Underwater Discoveries at Caesarea Maritima, Israel

We are happy to welcome the Archaeology Society of Staten Island for a fascinating lecture by Dr. Bridget Buxton, of the University of Rhode Island, on the recent underwater work of the Israel Antiquities Authority Maritime Unit in collaboration with the Oceangate Foundation in Israel. She will discuss the excavations of a medieval Fatimid gold hoard, a large fourth-century CE Roman shipwreck carrying a cargo of bronze and glass, and surprising new discoveries about the construction of the Biblical King Herod’s ancient harbor.
