From the Harlem River Quiver to the Tone Parallel to Harlem, it’s time to explore the life and legacy of one of the greatest jazz musicians of all time, and the provocative pieces dedicated to his beloved hometown.
Join New York Adventure Club as we retrace the incredible music career of jazz pianist and composer Duke Ellington, with a focus on his footsteps in — and musical tributes of — his hometown of New York City.
Led by DJ and jazz historian Matthew “Fat Cat” Rivera, this virtual presentation and listening party will include:
- The early years of Duke Ellington and how he quickly became central to the New York jazz scene
- A survey of his relationship to New York City, from his apartments in Harlem to the West Village jazz clubs he frequented
- A deep dive into his greatest hits from throughout his illustrious career
- A listening party featuring a curated selection of rare 78rpm records, played on a vintage high-fidelity sound system throughout the evening
