An Evening with Deborah Lipstadt

Raised in Queens, educated at City College and Brandeis, and—after a few West Coast teaching stints—hired by Emory University, Professor Deborah Lipstadt isn’t remotely British. So how did she wind up having to defend herself in a London courtroom after her seminal book, Denying the Holocaust: The Growing Assault on Truth and Memory, debuted in 1993?

A Holocaust-denying British historian whom she had written about decided to sue her for libel on his home turf, where the burden of proof is on the defendant. What happened as a result is the subject of the book she wrote next, History on Trial: My Day in Court with David Irving, and of the recently released film adaptation, Denial.

Come spend an evening with Lipstadt, the Dorot Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University, and learn about her history-making journey.
